Stone landscaping offers an ever-increasing creative opportunity. From stone pathways and swimming pool terraces, to paving stones for driveways, stone is appearing in new shapes and textures everyday in Massachusetts landscape designs. One new method of stone landscaping is cement imprinting. In this process, wet cement is infused with solid or patterned colors in the mix, and as it sets, rubber matting with a patterned design is set on top of it. The cement hardens to a textured surface that looks like real stone with no need for mortaring of any kind. The end result is very aesthetic and the price is reasonable compared to other paving materials.

Stonework can find its way into any area of your landscape, particularly slopes in yards where it might replace a bare patch of dirt or rough sections of sloped ground. You can use stones commonly available in your area or buy any variety, size and shape of stone from a quarry. Large stones of course require truck transportation to your location. As a sign of prestige, status, and character, large stones can create a wealthy image in a natural way. Stone can be inscribed with your name or house address if you’re so inclined.

Stones can have a weathered look with lots of character. By using different colors in your stone fences, stone pathways, and stone patios, you can achieve a very warming and natural effect. Still, stone can be difficult to work with due to irregular shapes and thus expensive in terms of labor costs. Often, an experienced stonemason is required. For use on garden bed borders, using locally available stones is one of the cheaper methods of stone landscaping.
